All plants require certain chemical elements to grow. These chemicals can be provided through the application of fertilizers that contain
these chemical compounds. The two main methods of making these compounds available to the plant is applying them into the soil, so that they
may be taken in by the plant's root system or by applying the fertilizer directly to the leaves of the plant, which allows them to be
absorbed into the plant systemically.
Fertilizers can be either organic (derived from plants or animals) or inorganic (consisting of chemical compounds and minerals) The purpose
is the same regardless of its makeup, to provide the major plant nutrients, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, along with other nutrients
including trace elements need for good plant growth and health .
This site provides information on the various types of fertilizer and their uses.
